Brave moves

Truly, I need to govern my elation and self-confidence after I leave mass or the company of my friends.   I have had occasion to seek out super fun friends, the same type I had at Saint Mary's.  God planted them in my life, and I get teary if I talk about it or write it. I have a lot of perseverance in the face of danger, doubt, and physical weakness.  My brothers are adept at being my cheerleaders.

My friend gave me this book referenced in the hyperlink below:

With the pep-talk of divine purpose, I decided to donate blood.  Prior to today, I had not donated in 11 years.  The last time I tried, I passed out.  Powered by four doughnuts, 33 ounces of water, I relaxed in a chill chair and let the staff double tap.

Heroically, the staff found 3 eligible veins in my right arm, and one in my left arm.  Last year, my veins hid from nurses.  The right arm vein was a difficult stick and the sweetest phlebotomist nailed it, but nothing came out. There was only one vein left to try in my other arm.  I told the staff, "Do whatever you have to do to make this a success."  The left vein rolled.  It was mind over matter so to speak as she readjusted the 16 gauge needle in my arm.

As the phlebotomist was drawing blood, I squeezed two stress balls to make the flow easier.  Both of us, the phlebotomist and I were on pins and needles in competitive spirit as we hoped the vein would not blow.  I squeezed the stress ball more aggressively as the phlebotomist told me that half the bag was full.  Soon, I had the minimum amount, then the max!

Then, there was the after party.  I was dizzy, hearing in my left ear was fading and my vision was blurry.  Powerade came to the rescue and I stayed for a long time.  Laying in the recliner felt good on my back.

When I returned home, I took two vitamin pills.  I have never had anemia.  My Hashimotos is well-regulated and I am almost on full replacement.  However, I take precautions, such as eating 40-60% fruits and vegetables.  I still have bad days.  Fortunately the T3 numbers have been steady for about 3 months and the staff said that it was okay to donate.

I do have a belly ache from those doughnuts.  Gluten does terrible things to me.  I really need plan ahead as I have before.  : )
